Black and White Babe of the Week 30: Edita Vilkevičiūtė

Well, we were shocked to discover that we haven't posted a black and white babe of the week for over two years (you can see where the concept has utterly failed).  This is because we now, largely, post our pictures of women on our Venus Observations blog which did not exist when we started this one.

In fact, we notice that our last black and white babe (the peerless Monica Bellucci) was posted to coincide with Agent DVD's birthday.  So why not post another one, we thought?

The subject matter soon became apparent.  This week we have been having discussions with a former business colleague in Lithuania (actually she became rather more than that for a time).  Coincidentally, Agent DVD is in (or, perhaps, just returning) from a holiday in the Baltic States.

So we decided to go for a black and white babe from Lithuania.  Agent Triple P has visited Lithuania  at least half a dozen times and it really does have some of the loveliest young women on the planet and they are now very common in the modelling scene.

The only thing that holds them back from greater world recognition, we suspect, are their engagingly complicated names, which do not exactly trip off the tongue.

Here then is Edita Vilkevičiūtė who was born in Kaunus on New Year's Day 1989. After winning a modelling competition there she debuted in 2006.

After a few seasons working in Spain she broke into the Paris, London and New York arenas.  Recently she has figured in high profile campaigns for Calvin Klein, Louis Vuiton, Emporio Armani and Karl Lagerfield.  She has also been a Victoria's Secret angel.

She really is a classic Baltic beauty and at 5'9" possesses the sort of willowy figure you often encounter wafting around Vilnius (or, indeed, Kaunus) in the long, light evenings in the summer.

Unlike most American models she is quite happy to be photographed wearing nothing at all and, in fact, it was quite tricky to find any black and white pictures of her dressed.

Black and White Babe of the Week: 29 Monica Bellucci

Who more appropriate for Black and White Babe of the Week on this, Agent DVD's birthday, than Italian goddess Monica Bellucci?

We first became aware of La Bellucci when she played one of Dracula's brides in Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992).  She was that striking that we bothered to find out who she was (not easy in pre-internet (at least for Agent Triple P) days ).

Now we haven't followed her career like Agent DVD has but there aren't many fashion models (she was signed by Elite model Management in Milan in 1988) who have gone on to be proper actresses (rather than models who just pose about a bit on screen). 

She has now appeared in 56 films and, at the age of 46, still looks as gorgeous as ever.

Agent Triple P literally ran into her as their paths crossed in the doorway of one of her favourite Italian restaurants during the Toronto Film Festival a few years ago.  It was a pleasantly soft impact and she was the one who apologised first.

Monica has never been shy about taking off her clothes, thankfully, whether for the cinema or photographs and we had rather more pictures to choose from for this post than most of our subjects.

Sadly, we have only seen six of her films but we are sure that Agent DVD has seen rather more and, indeed, has had to source some of his DVDs from obscure places as many are not available in the UK.

We suspect that Agent DVD's choice of top Monica films would include Malena (2000) and L'Appartement (1996), both of which we have seen, incidentally.  We hope to see him this week and maybe he can recommend a third.  We are sure he will have it in his collection.

Quite often, when the FHM sexiest women list comes out (the 2011 version is due at midnight tonight) we discuss, with Agent DVD, who would be top of our own lists.  Agent Triple P does not have a categoric answer to that but Agent DVD is quite clear!

Oddly, Agent Triple P's favourite Monica photograph is one where she is completely dressed.  It is this one, below, of a very young Monica resplendent in hold up stockings and a polka dot dress which seems to be doing its best to fall off her.  Splendid!

Black and White Babe of the Week: 28. Nude No 17 by John Everard

Dan left a comment on Venus Observations asking whether we had heard of photographer John Everard and if we knew where you could find his work online.  There are some pictures online at the Bettymaepage.com (pay site) but otherwise very little.  Completely coincidentally, however, Triple P ordered one of his books from a second-hand dealer abroad only last week so hopefully we will be able to put some up soon.  In the meantime, here is Nude no 17 from 1941.

Black and White Babe of the Week 27: Claudia Koll

At the suggestion of B we recently watched the Tinto Brass film Cosi fan Tutte (1992) or,  All Ladies Do It as  Triple P's (uncut) US version calls it. 

It is the usual Brass mixture of beautiful girls (invariably photographed naked from behind) , abstracted sets and soft core sex but this one features the luminescent Claudia Koll who makes this otherwise rather dreadful film more than watchable.

The plot, what there is of it, seems to focus on Koll's character's quest to find a man who will have anal sex with her. 

This enables Brass to include lots of shots of  Koll's quite exceptionally fine posterior and, indeed her anus.  We cannot imagine why B thought such a subject would be of interest to us!

Koll was born Claudia Colacione in Rome in 1965 and made her first film in 1989.  She made a number of films over the next decade but in 2000 became a staunch Catholic, having had a Damascene revelation, as she had abandoned her early upbringing in the church. 

She now spends her time talking about her conversion and promoting religion, having renounced her previous life.

At least we have this fine set of studies, from 1992, to remember her past loveliness.

Black and White Babe of the Week: 26 Martina Valkova

Here is Slovakian model Martina Valkova photographed by Swedish photographer Marcus Ohlsson in a photo pictorial called Twin Peaks.  This is particularly appropriate as we have just finished watching series one of the classic nineties David Lynch TV show of the same name.  If you haven't seen it you should! 

Valkova is just over 5'9" tall and measures 34-24-35.  Other than that, information is very hard to find about her.

She has appeared in many magazines, particularly in Germany (Petra, German Elle)  but also Madame, Vogue Italia and Harper's Bazaar.

Advertising-wise she did a big campaign for Campari  She also, strikingly, did the spring/summer catalogue for French lingerie firm Lejaby.

Marcus Ohlsson is an increasingly well known fashion photographer who launched his career as a professional in 2005, having left school to work with established Swedish photographers Calle Stoltz, Camilla Åkrans and Mikael Jansson.

Olsson uses a lot of natural light in his photography and his colour work often shows a washed out, over-exposed look which gives much of it a romantic, seventies feel.

Here, however, he treats Valkova as an abstract, found object, engineering beguiling glimpses of luscious portions of her.
